Fourteen VMS’s on the toll collection area of Westerscheldetunnel
The Westerscheldetunnel is an important thoroughfare between Zeeland, Flanders and West Brabant. On average 15.000 motorists use the 6.6 kilometres long tunnel on a daily basis. With the growing number of motorists that use this route the provision of information becomes more significant, especially on the toll collection area, where proper information leads to a better traffic flow.
The project
In the night of March 3 4, 2015, EBO van Weel collaborated with Paree B.V. (responsible for the electronics) and P. van Eijzeren B.V. (responsible for the construction), replacing fourteen VMS’s, which could only display a limited number of predefined information messages. The new VMS’s do not have this limitation: all sorts of information messages can be displayed, which makes it possible to better inform the motorists for an improved traffic flow in the toll collection area.
EBO van Weel supplied both the hardware and software in this project. The software is a custom-made version of Traffic Fleet that enables the control room of the Westerscheldetunnel to control all the VMS’s with changing messages.
