Dakdrip – roof mounted VMS
The roof mounted VMS 3.0 is a dynamic information panel which belongs to the new generation of road inspection vehicles. During incidents, the road inspection vehicle is the first on site to inform, warn and advise road users during calamities on provincial- and highways.
The roof mounted VMS 3.0 has the following unique features:
- Very good visibility thanks to the large 80*80-pixel LED display
- 360-degree rotation
- Integrated light bars: amber and work lights

Visibility is of great importance
It is very important that the road supervisor is clearly visible with the road inspection vehicle during incidents. During operations, the vehicles are always in the most dangerous places on the road, especially during rush hour.
That is why the roof mounted VMS is equipped with a relatively large LED display of 80*80 pixels (P12).
This significantly improves visibility compared to smaller versions.
The large LED display allows for the projection of 96 cm traffic signs and a diagonal white arrow of approx. 120 cm. compared to existing systems, this is an increase of 200%.
More safety through versatility of functions
The roof mounted VMS is also able to rotate 360 degrees. The system can therefore be directed towards traffic in any situation for optimal visibility of both LED display and light bar.
Consider the following situations:
- Straight at traffic, that is arriving from the rear of the vehicle.
- Fend-off at traffic in all positions (e.g., 35/45/55 degrees).
- Perpendicular at traffic (90 degrees). Think of complete closures or multiple lanes.
- 180 degrees (display on the front of the vehicle). Think of incidents on provincial roads where the vehicle must inform traffic in the opposite direction. For example, when the vehicle cannot turn.
- All modes are freely selectable.
Light bar fully integrated
The roof mounted VMS is equipped with ECE65 class 2 approved Light Bar (Amber, Blue, Red). R6 indicators have also been integrated, making it easy to comply with the incident management rules. On the rear there is extra attention value by extra modules that can also be used as Arrow bar.
Work lights are also integrated 360 degrees around the roof mounted VMS, so that the work area around the vehicle is well lit. The Light Bar is IP67 certified, which means that the roof mounted VMS can be used anywhere in the world and is also available in a combined colour composition of up to 4 colours (amber, blue, red, white and green).
Leave the vehicle quickly thanks to DRIP app
It is of great importance that the road supervisor upon arrival of the incident can leave the road inspection vehicle as soon as possible.
For this we have developed the DRIP app. This app can control the functionalities of the display up to 50 meters outside the road inspection vehicle via a smartphone and/or tablet (IOS, Android or Windows). The DRIP app has the following functions:
- UP and DOWN function
- Rotating 360 degrees
- Light bars and work lights
- Creating an animation and sending it to the LED-display
With this technology, the road supervisor is hardly in his road inspection vehicle, which drastically reduces the chance of a collision with the road supervisor.
The road supervisor has all the instruments of the inspection vehicle in one hand (smartphone) to carry out traffic interventions and place himself in a safe zone.
Smart Mobility applied in different ways.
Smart mobility applications can be created via various links to increase visibility and safety:
- The Traffic Fleet platform
- A link to the Traffic Control Center.
- Road Supervisor status via the app and linked with Traffic Control Center
- Early Warning – linked to Flits Meister, Waze and NDW
- Car2X technology through a Roadside Unit (RSU)

Connected with the traffic management centre – a real-time overview of the road supervisors
Via Traffic Fleet (our online fleet management system) a secured connection can be set up with the traffic management centre. This makes it able to control the complete fleet of roof mounted VMS’s in real-time. Actual status information and potential errors are detected and reported.
Moreover, the availability of the road supervisor can be indicated with the tablet/phone. This enables the traffic management centre to be informed about the current activities of their road supervisors.
